PROFESSIONAL LEARNING NETWORKS
LLT 565
I was introduced to the idea of Personal Learning Networks ( PLNs) during LLT 565, Emerging Technologies for Educators. The truth is I was already involved in some professional learning that works but didn't realize it. Professional learning networks are Groups of connected professionals that communicate and collaborate using various Web 2.0 technologies and social networking apps PLNs offer an opportunity for professional learning with other people around the world any time or any place you want.
The interesting thing about PLNs is the ability to connect with so many people and exchange ideas. They go far beyond what anybody could accomplish in professional development within schools. Professional learning Networks deserve recognition when it comes to their ability to provide connected learning for educators.
With the change that has taken place in education this past year due to the covid-19 crisis, I began to really take a look at what professional learning networks had to offer. When most schools across America started virtually at the beginning of the 2020 school year, I knew there would be some teachers who were in trouble when it came to effectively teaching using the technology that would be required. My own School District implemented a brand new and robust learning management system three weeks before the school year. I know other school districts did the same thing. I belong to a PLN called Canvas for Secondary Educators. In our Network, educators exchange ideas and ask each other questions about the ins-and-outs of running different parts of the system. It's a continual ongoing exchange of ideas.

Seeing what has gone on in PLNs since the Covid-19 crisis, I honestly believe that some educators could not have gotten by had they not had the ability to network with other teachers. Those same educators who find their answers in PLNs take that information back to their classroom and share it with other Educators in their buildings.
I've become curious enough about PLNs that I decided to use it as a research topic for my Methods of Research course. My goal through that research will be to describe the nature of educators' involvement with (PLNs) and to discover what, if any, correlation they have with technology integration in the classroom.
